Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton

Author: Kelly Keaton
Pages:  288
Genre: YA/ Paranormal
Ari can’t help feeling lost and alone. With teal eyes and freakish silver hair that can’t be changed or destroyed, Ari has always stood out. And after growing up in foster care, she longs for some understanding of where she came from and who she is.

Her search for answers uncovers just one message from her long dead mother: Run. Ari can sense that someone, or something, is getting closer than they should. But it’s impossible to protect herself when she doesn’t know what she’s running from or why she is being pursued.

She knows only one thing: she must return to her birthplace of New 2, the lush rebuilt city of New Orleans. Upon arriving, she discovers that New 2 is very...different. Here, Ari is seemingly normal. But every creature she encounters, no matter how deadly or horrifying, is afraid of her.

Ari won’t stop until she knows why. But some truths are too haunting, too terrifying, to ever be revealed. [via GoodReads]
This book completely took me by surprise.  I was not expecting  how awesome it would be.  There was a great mixture of paranormal characters - from vampires, shifters, witches, Goddess's and Gods, Demigods, and even a Voodoo Priestess (and these were just a few of them).  Aside from the very cool characters, the setting, New Orleans (post-hurricane destruction) was very neat.  You could feel the mystery and the magic of it all - since one moment you were in a dilapidated mansion and the next you were dancing in the splendor of a ball gown.

There's not much more I can say without giving too much away, but I will say this, Ms. Keaton did a phenomenal job in her debut novel. Ari is a kick-ass heroine and her story is one full of adventure, mystery, magic and romance.   I cannot wait to see what happens next!  Oh, and did I mention it was awesome?  It was!  Do yourself a favor and don't miss out on this one.  I guarantee it's like nothing you've read before.

I'm able to download an e-galley of this book thanks to Simon & Schuster's beta program, but I was debating on whether or not I should read it. Looks like I should! I love the sound of the mix of mythical beings you mentioned. It sounds so creative. Thanks for the recommendation!

This one sounds great, I am putting it on my TBR list. I like that there are more characters than just a vampire and a werewolf and the setting sounds pretty interesting.
